DISTRICT MISSION & VISION
Our mission is to prepare each student academically and socially to become a responsible and productive citizen.
Through the X-elerate Program, the district’s most enhanced level of its advanced academics program, fifth grade students can accelerate in math and/or English/language arts curriculum by one or two full years via an online summer learning program. The district is also in its ninth year implementing the Dual Language Program, an educational model in which native English speakers and native speakers of another language receive instruction together in both languages to promote bilingual literacy in an ever-growing global market. To date, there are almost 1,000 students in the innovative program. By the time the DLP students leave elementary school, they have earned their first high school credit (Spanish 1), and they are eligible to earn college credit in Spanish by the time they leave junior high.
Finally, AISD students have the opportunity to participate in award-winning fine arts programs and championship athletics programs. Recognizing that winning with honor is as important as the win itself, AISD promotes a strong level of sportsmanship in fine arts and athletics. In fact, each AISD campus promotes character development and education in order to produce well-rounded graduates ready for the real world. Recently, Southside Elementary was named a State School of Character for the second time and is one of only 15 schools from Texas and one of only 87 schools from the United States to receive the distinction. Wildcats understand that character counts at all times.
